After and Before

“After and Before” are a series of candlestick holders formed by dripped wax, transformed into glass through the process of lost wax casting. Wax is cleaned and reclaimed from previous sculptures, melted, dripped, encased in plaster, and melted out once again before the negative space is filled with molten glass. The wax melted from the plaster mold is then reclaimed and used once again to create the next piece. The wax lives in a perpetual cycle of being melted, shaped, and cleaned before the cavity it creates catches the molten glass that will forever describe its form. Moments otherwise fleeting, now immortalized in a static state. When a new candlestick is placed in the holder and lit, new wax drips onto and interacts with the glass drips below. After and before.
